Header Modernization

Transforming a fragmented navigation layer into a governed platform

The problem

The Home Depot's global header (the most interacted-with surface in the experience, serving 143M unique visitors a month) had fragmented into 7 variations across 4 codebases with no structural refresh since 2016. It had evolved into a capability-driven system that slowed organizational velocity and no longer reflected how customers actually navigated. On a surface this size, even small changes are visible at the executive level; there is no room to be quietly wrong.

What I did

Reframed the effort from a UI redesign into a platform question, then led a cross-functional tiger team through RITE testing and stakeholder alignment to rebuild the header around actual behavior (search and transactions first, browsing one layer deeper), consolidate B2C and B2B onto one shared codebase, and move content updates to a CMS-driven model.
