Product Page Evolution

Evolving a uniform product template into an adaptive decision framework

The problem

The product detail page is the primary decision-driving surface for products, where product confidence, validation and purchase commitment happen, for novice and expert workflows alike. It had been built as a single uniform template carrying the entire catalog, from a three-dollar sponge to a three-thousand-dollar refrigerator. The team accountable for that surface owns less than 40% of what appears on it.

What I did

Reframed the work from redesigning a page to defining a decision framework: established the two jobs customers actually arrive with, made level of consideration the organizing variable instead of product category, adapted the information hierarchy rather than the page, and sequenced a validation plan cheapest-first, all built as a governance tool component teams could map their own work onto.
